<note>The liver is an important organ in the body which can experience hepatotoxicity,
so we need a material that can protect and prevent liver damage known as a
hepatoprotector. Several medicinal plants are reported to have hepatoprotector
effects, including plants from the Fabaceae family. The purpose of this review
article was to find scientific information about medicinal plants from the fabaceae
family that have activity as a hepatoprotector. The method used was through
online search of related journals from accredited websites such as Google
Scholar, Science Direct, Elsevier, NCBI, Reaserch gate and Proquest. The results
showed that 15 plants from the subfamily Caesalpinioideae, 8 from the subfamily
Papilionoideae and 1 from the Mimosaceae subfamily had hepatoprotector
activity through in vivo testing on experimental animals with various test
parameters. The parts of the plant studied are leaves, roots, flowers, seeds, wood,
fruit and herbs. The extraction solvents used include ethanol, methanol, aquadest,
petroleum ether, chloroform, and ethyl acetate. The hepatotoxic inductors used
include paracetamol and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). It can be concluded that 24
species from the Fabaceae family have hepatoprotector activity, 2 species from
the genus Cassia have been tested for their toxicity, and the active
hepatoprotector compound from Cassia tora L. has been isolated, namely
ononitol monohydrate.</note>
